ORCHESTRE
LES MÉTAMORPHOSES
Created in 2018, the Orchestre Les Métamorphoses stands in total contradiction to the specialisation that reigns in classical music production today. Taking into account the fundamental transformation of the training of young professional musicians, whose studies have - unlike those of their elders - prepared them for stylistic versatility, its creator, the conductor Amaury du Closel, wished to offer its members the opportunity to approach works ranging from the Baroque to the Classics, in a historically informed manner on modern instruments, but also 20th century composers. In the spirit of Nikolaus Harnoncourt's writings, this young and brilliant orchestra is able to cover a wide repertoire ranging from Dittersdorf's Metamorphoses to those of Richard Strauss or Walter Braunfels, from Bach to Ligeti.
From its debut in January 2018, the orchestra immediately made a name for itself in performances of Mozart's The Magic Flute. The press also highlighted its involvement in the Fin de Siècle Vienna programme with vocal and symphonic works by Gustav Mahler, Franz Schreker and Alexander von Zemlinsky. The latter programme was repeated at the Festival de la Chaise-Dieu with the Korean baritone Jiwon Song, First Prize winner of the 25th International Singing Competition in Clermont-Ferrand. This programme has also been performed several times in Strasbourg, at the Théâtre des Sablons and in Poissy.
For the year 2023, Les Métamorphoses will accompany Opéra Nomade in its sold-out La Traviata tour, which will take them to ten theatres throughout France. The Orchestra also presents a range of programmes representative of its diversity and versatility, in Festivals such as Sully and Loiret or Septembre Musical de l'Orne. Finally, a European tour takes the orchestra to Vienna, Bayreuth and Barcelona, and it will take part in the Ligeti Festival in Prague for the latter's 100th birthday. In 2023 he will also release his second CD on the theme of 'Music and Politics' and is preparing another on the composer Arnold Schönberg for the 150th anniversary of his birth.
UPCOMING CONCERTS
"The keystone of this Lucia? The Orchestra Les Métamorphoses! Amaury du Closel makes it the epicentre of the drama, the sensitive soul, and the backbone of the tensions: a vigilant and enlightening conductor, always attentive to the soloists but above all receptive and a fine translator of a score that is redoubtlessly demanding in that it forgives no weakness."
